Overview
Shattered Pixel Dungeon is developed by Evan Debenham (Shattered Pixel), based on the original Pixel Dungeon, and its full source code is public under the GPL-3.0 license. Each run is a fresh, randomly generated descent: you pick a hero, find and identify items as you go, and push down through the dungeon's regions and bosses. Death is permanent.
Hero Classes
Six heroes, each with a unique item and a different starting weapon. Only the Warrior is available at first; the others unlock by doing something in a run.
| Class | Unique item | Starting melee weapon | How to unlock |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warrior 戦士 | Broken seal (shielding at low HP) | Worn shortsword | Unlocked from the start |
| Mage 魔術師 | Mage's staff (imbue any wand) | Mage's staff | Use a Scroll of Upgrade on an item |
| Rogue 盗賊 | Cloak of Shadows (turn invisible) | Dagger | Make 10 surprise attacks in one run |
| Huntress 女猟師 | Spirit bow (infinite arrows) | Studded gloves | Hit enemies with thrown weapons 10 times in one run |
| Duelist 決闘者 | Weapon abilities (different for every weapon) | Rapier | Equip a tier 2+ weapon with no strength penalty |
| Cleric 聖職者 | Holy tome (divine spells) | Cudgel | Fully cleanse the curse on a cursed item |
How Strength Affects Weapons
Every weapon has a strength (STR) requirement. Tier 1 needs 10, and each tier adds 2 (a few heavy weapons need more).
- 1Too weak: for each point of STR you're missing, accuracy is divided by 1.5 and each attack takes 1.2× as long — and both stack, so even 2 points short hurts a lot.
- 2Extra strength: every hit gets a random bonus of 0 up to your excess STR (so 3 extra STR adds 0–3 damage per hit).
- 3Upgrading lowers the requirement: the STR requirement drops by 1 at +1, +3, +6, +10 and so on.
Every Melee Weapon
Base damage at +0, what each upgrade adds (min / max), and average damage per turn (average hit ÷ attack time). Accuracy below 1 means more misses; reach 2+ lets you hit from further away. From v4.0.1.

Reading the numbers
Every melee weapon on its own page, with special rules for the Runic Blade, Crossbow and more →
Wand damage, charges and every ring's bonus →
Every trinket's effect at +0 to +3 →
- The highest raw damage per turn in each tier: Studded Gloves (tier 1), Sickle (tier 2, but only ×0.68 accuracy), Sai (tier 3), Flail (tier 4, ×0.8 accuracy) and Greataxe (tier 5, which needs 20 STR).
- Fast weapons like Gloves, Sai and Gauntlet split their damage over two hits per turn, so enemy armor, which reduces every hit, cuts into them more than into slow, heavy weapons.
- Several weapons have effects the table can't show — the Dagger and Assassin's Blade are built for surprise attacks, and the Runic Blade gains more damage per upgrade than other tier-4 weapons. Accuracy-boosted weapons like the Cudgel, Hand Axe and Mace trade damage for fewer misses.
