Conclusion
1-5 (鎮守府近海) is the first Extra Operation map and the first place you fight submarines. Sink the boss flagship 4 times each month to clear it for a medal and 75 special war results.
From the wiki's routing table, the boss route is easy to lock: 4 ships or fewer, no (non-aviation) battleships, standard carriers or oilers, at most 2 light cruisers and 1 light carrier. A light cruiser and three destroyers in line abreast, carrying sonar and depth charges, is the standard approach.
Fleet and Routing
| Rule | Effect |
|---|---|
| 4 ships or fewer | Required for the short boss route. 5+ ships branch away. |
| No battleships (aviation battleships are OK), standard carriers or submarines | Any of these sends you away from the boss. |
| At most 2 light cruisers and 1 light carrier | 3+ light cruisers or 2+ light carriers branch away. |
| No oilers | Oilers make some branches random. Yamashiomaru counts as an oiler. |
The wiki lists 1 light cruiser + 3 destroyers, 4 destroyers, 4 destroyer escorts — even 4 aviation battleships — as fleets that reach the boss by the shortest route.
Fighting Submarines
- Equipment matters more than base stats for ASW. Sonar and depth charges are the core; develop them if you don't have them.
- Line abreast (単横陣) gives the best damage against submarines.
- Finish in the day battle. At night, attacks on submarines only do scratch damage.
- Opening ASW (先制対潜) lets you hit subs before their opening torpedoes. It normally needs 100 ASW including gear plus a sonar; destroyer escorts need only 60. Isuzu Kai Ni (level 50) can do it with no conditions, which makes her the usual answer for new players.
- Anti-submarine nodes on the way (A, D, F) use only 8% fuel and no ammo. The boss node uses the normal 20%/20%.
Watch Your HQ Level
1-5 is cheap and gives a lot of admiral EXP, so farming the boss raises your HQ level quickly — to around 80 faster than you'd expect. Some enemy fleets get stronger with HQ level, including on 1-5 itself: around HQ 60, more submarines with opening torpedoes appear.
For leveling destroyers and light cruisers, the wiki suggests going with 6 ships and turning back before the boss instead of farming the boss with 4.
Quests That Use 1-5
| Quest | Type | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| 海上輸送路の安全確保に努めよ! | Weekly | A rank or better at the boss, 3 times. Gives improvement materials. |
| 海上護衛強化月間 | Monthly | A rank or better at the boss, 10 times. |
| 泊地周辺海域の安全確保を徹底せよ! | Quarterly | S rank at the boss 3 times, plus 7-1 and both 7-2 bosses. |
These stack well with the daily submarine quest. See Daily Quests.
FAQ
Can Akashi drop here?
Yes, at the boss with an S rank, but only from a boss fleet that appears at higher HQ levels and at a low rate. See How to Get Akashi.
A submarine keeps heavily damaging my ships before I can act.
That's an opening torpedo. Opening ASW (or Isuzu Kai Ni) is the fix; line abreast and better sonar help too.
When does the gauge come back?
At the start of each month. Clears count for the medal until 23:59 JST and for special war results until about 22:00 on the last day.
Does damage to the boss reduce the gauge?
No — only sinking the boss flagship does, at 25% each time.
