Conclusion
Running dry is almost always an income problem, not a spending one. Natural regeneration is small — about 1,440 fuel, ammo and steel and 480 bauxite a day — and it stops completely once you pass a cap set by your HQ level.
Going by the numbers on the Japanese wiki, the fix is, in order: keep all expedition fleets running, clear your daily and weekly quests, and stop doing night battles before the boss. Spending cuts come after that.
Why Regeneration Stops
- Every 3 minutes you get +3 fuel, ammo and steel and +1 bauxite, even while logged out.
- That regen stops once a resource reaches HQ level × 250 + 750 — 3,250 at HQ 10, 8,250 at HQ 30, 13,250 at HQ 50. You can see this value on the record (戦績, Senseki) screen.
- Only regeneration is capped. Expeditions, quests and map pickups can push you past it, up to the hard cap of 350,000.
- If your Land-Based Air Squadrons are set to rest (休息), bauxite regen is halved.
Where the Income Comes From
| Source | Roughly how much | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Natural regen | 1,440 fuel/ammo/steel, 480 bauxite per day | Stops above the HQ cap |
| Daily quests (all) | About 1,740 fuel, 1,460 ammo, 1,920 steel, 1,150 bauxite | Some daily quests spend resources too (construction, development) |
| Weekly quests (all) | About 4,350 / 3,200 / 3,550 / 3,750 per week | Mostly sortie quests |
| Expeditions | The biggest steady source | See the expedition guide |
| Map resource nodes | Tens to over a hundred per node | 1-3, 2-2, 3-2 and 4-3 are the efficient ones |
Quest totals are the wiki's sums for all recurring quests of that type; the real figure depends on which ones you can clear.
Where It Goes (and What's Easy to Miss)
- Every battle node uses 20% of each ship's fuel and ammo. A night battle makes the ammo cost 1.5×. Night battles on the way to the boss cost ammo and leave you weaker at the boss — skip them unless you're retreating anyway.
- Battleships and carriers have far bigger fuel and ammo tanks than destroyers, so every resupply costs more.
- Repairs cost fuel and steel, and big ships cost more to repair.
- Bauxite goes on refilling planes lost in battle, and on deploying Land-Based Air Squadrons.
- Construction and development — especially Large Ship Construction — can burn thousands in one go.
A Simple Recovery Plan
- 1Keep fleets 2–4 on expeditions all the time. Pick ones that return around when you'll next log in.
- 2Clear the cheap daily quests every day (sorties on easy maps, exercises, expeditions, resupply, repairs).
- 3Grind EXP on cheap fleets: destroyers and light cruisers on 1-1 or 2-x, not battleships.
- 4Skip night battles before the boss, and retreat early instead of pushing a damaged fleet.
- 5Pause Large Ship Construction and heavy recipes until your stockpile is back.
FAQ
My resources stopped going up. Is it bugged?
Almost certainly not. You've passed the regeneration cap for your HQ level (HQ level × 250 + 750). Spend below it or level up your HQ and it starts again.
Which resource runs out first?
It depends on what you use. Battleship-heavy play drains fuel, ammo and steel; carrier-heavy play drains bauxite. Watch which one is lowest and pick expeditions for it.
Is it worth buying resources?
That's your call — but expeditions and quests usually solve it for free. Fix your expedition rotation before spending money.
Do exercises cost resources?
Yes, fuel and ammo like a sortie, but they're cheap for the EXP. See Exercises Explained.
