How to Unlock the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Fleet

More fleets mean more expeditions running at once, which is the biggest boost to your resources. Here are the exact quests — with their Japanese titles translated — and the ships each one needs.

01

Conclusion

Fleets unlock through quests (任務, Ninmu), not levels:

  • 2nd fleet: quest A4 — put any six ships in one fleet.
  • 3rd fleet: quest A14 — put Sendai, Jintsuu and Naka in one fleet.
  • 4th fleet: quest A16 — put Kongou, Hiei, Haruna and Kirishima in one fleet.

Each one only appears after earlier quests in the chain, so clear the Organize (編成) quests in order.

An analysis-based guide: this guide is based on our analysis of the quest and fleet-unlock information published on the Japanese KanColle wiki. It describes what the data shows and is not a guarantee of results.

Why You Want More Fleets

The 1st fleet can't go on expeditions, but the 2nd fleet and later can be sent on expeditions (遠征, Ensei), which bring in fuel, ammo, steel and bauxite — and some items — while you're away. Each extra fleet is one more expedition running at a time, so unlocking them early is the single biggest boost to your resource income. See Expedition Requirements for what each expedition needs.

Step by Step

  1. 1From the home port, open Quests (任務, Ninmu) at the top of the screen.
  2. 2Open the Organize tab (編成, Hensei) — the fleet unlock quests are all organization quests, numbered A1, A2, and so on.
  3. 3Accept the next available quest. Quests only count while they're accepted (shown as in progress).
  4. 4Do what it asks in the Organize screen. Organization quests complete as soon as the fleet matches — no sortie needed.
  5. 5Go back to Quests and claim the reward. The next quest in the chain appears; repeat until A4, A14 and A16 come up.
05

Common Mistakes

  1. 1Not accepting the quest first. Organizing the right ships before accepting the quest doesn't count — accept it, then re-organize if needed.
  2. 2Scrapping duplicates of the ships you'll need. A14 needs all three Sendai-class cruisers and A16 all four Kongou-class battleships. Keep them until those quests are done.
  3. 3Looking for a level requirement. There isn't one for these fleets — it's the quest chain.

FAQ

I don't have all four Kongou-class battleships. What can I do?

Keep building and sortieing — they come from construction and map drops. The 4th fleet unlocks as soon as you can field all four together for quest A16.

Can the 1st fleet go on expeditions?

No — expeditions use the 2nd fleet and later. That's why the extra fleets matter so much for resources.

How many expeditions can I run at once?

One per fleet beyond the first — so three at once once the 4th fleet is unlocked.
