Conclusion
Do your exercises every day. They're the most efficient EXP in the game for the resources spent, ships can't sink, and damage is restored afterward.
Opponents refresh twice a day, at 3:00 and 15:00 Japan time, five opponents each time — up to 10 exercises a day.
EXP depends mostly on the level of the opponent's first two ships. Once their flagship (or the average of their first two) is above level 32, base EXP is at least 500.
How Exercises Work
- Open them from Sortie (出撃) → Exercises (演習, Enshū). You fight other players' 1st fleets, controlled by the game.
- Fuel, ammo and bauxite are used as in a sortie, but damage is restored afterward and no ship can be lost.
- You can't exercise with a heavily damaged flagship. Combined fleets can't exercise.
- Each of the five opponents can be fought once per refresh.
- The opponent's fleet can change right up until the battle starts, so the fleet you see when picking a formation isn't always the one you fight.
Picking Your Opponent Pool
| Option | What you get |
|---|---|
| (新式) 演習艦隊【第一群】 — new style, group 1 | Tougher, higher-level fleets; more EXP when you win |
| (新式) 演習艦隊【第二群】 — new style, group 2 | Easier fleets |
| (旧式) 全体 — old style, overall | Random from the rankings |
Change the setting at least two hours before a refresh (by 1:00 or 13:00) for it to apply to the next set of opponents.
Exercise EXP
- Base EXP comes from the opponent's flagship and second ship levels. Your HQ level, your fleet's levels and their other ships barely matter.
- If their flagship, or the average of their first two ships, is above level 32, base EXP is at least 500. Above 500 it only creeps up — for example a level 99 flagship with a level 99 second ship gives about 613.
- An S rank multiplies it by 1.2, and the usual flagship (×1.5) and MVP (×2) bonuses apply on top.
- A ship that gets “sunk” in an exercise (shown at 1 HP and unable to act) gets no EXP, and makes your rank worse.
- Training cruisers (Katori-class) in your fleet increase EXP depending on their position and level.
FAQ
Can my ships sink in exercises?
No. Ships can be knocked out (left at 1 HP), but nothing is lost, and Damage Control isn't used up.
When do exercise opponents refresh?
At 3:00 and 15:00 Japan time — not at the 5:00 quest reset. Exercises fought between 3:00 and 5:00 count toward the previous day's quests but use the new set of opponents, so plan around that if you're chasing exercise quests.
Do other players attacking my fleet cost me anything?
No. When someone exercises against your fleet, you lose no resources, no damage, nothing.
Does fatigue matter?
Yes — each exercise battle costs −3 morale like a sortie battle, and an S rank decided in the daytime battle is one way to sparkle a ship. See Fatigue and Sparkling.
